Climate Change Education

Climate change education (CCE) is education that aims to address and develop effective
responses to climate change. It helps learners understand the causes and consequences of
climate change, prepares them to live with the impacts of climate change, and empowers
learners to take appropriate actions to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.
Education is crucial to promote climate action. It helps people understand and address the
impacts of the climate crisis, empowering them with the knowledge, skills, values, and
attitudes needed to act as agents of change.
Recently, we have seen the state of Kerala suffering from a climate crisis. Kerala has been
experiencing an onslaught of heavy rains, floods, landslides, and droughts over the last few
years. The state has received heavy rainfall in 1924, 1961, 2018, and 2021.
The carbon emitted by humans into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution is one of
the major causes of the current climate crisis. But human interactions have accelerated the
impacts of climate change.
Climate change education is concerned with incorporating knowledge about global warming
and climate change with teaching about the environment, development, human beings, and
history into everyday life. It is meant to provide educators, politicians, and others with
accurate information on how to cope with and adapt to climate change.
Climate change impacts are increasing all over the world. The need for such education is
ever-pressing. It is high time to focus on the increasing impact of such a crisis.
